Floor Pan Repair in Toronto & the GTA

Cut-and-weld replacement of rusted cabin and trunk floor sections.

Overview

Floor pan rust usually goes unnoticed until water leaks through the carpet or a hole opens up under the driver's foot. In Toronto and the GTA, floor pans rust from two directions at once: from below, where salt-laden slush is thrown up against the underside, and from above, where moisture from wet boots and clogged sunroof drains soaks into the carpet padding and stays there. By the time rust becomes visible, the metal beneath is typically much worse than it appears. Proper floor pan repair means pulling out the carpet, seats and sound deadening, cutting away the corroded metal, fabricating or fitting a replacement pan section, welding it in with continuous seams, and then sealing every seam with automotive seam sealer before undercoating both sides. Full replacement pans are available for many popular platforms, but plenty of vehicles require hand-fabricated patches. Getting this right matters because floor pans are structural — they tie the rocker panels together and support the seat mounts and seatbelt anchor points that keep occupants safe in a crash.

Signs You Need Floor Pan Repair

  • Wet carpet or a damp musty smell inside the cabin
  • Visible holes or rust when the carpet is lifted
  • Rust flakes on the driveway under the vehicle
  • Water pooling in the trunk after rain or a car wash
  • Seat belt anchor points that feel loose or corroded

The Repair Process

  1. 1

    Interior removal

Seats, carpet and sound deadening are removed to expose the floor.

  2. 2

    Rust assessment

Extent of corrosion is mapped from both above and below.

  3. 3

    Cut and weld

Corroded sections are removed and replacement pan sections are MIG-welded in.

  4. 4

    Seam sealing

All new seams are treated with automotive seam sealer to prevent water intrusion.

  5. 5

    Undercoat and reassembly

Underside is coated with rust inhibitor and the interior is reassembled.
