How Much Does Rust Repair Cost in Toronto?
8 min read · Updated June 2026
Why rust repair pricing varies so much
Ask three Toronto shops what it costs to fix rust on your rocker panel and you'll get three very different answers — sometimes a spread of thousands of dollars. That's not because one shop is dishonest; it's because 'rust repair' means very different things depending on how far the corrosion has spread, how much prep is required, and how the shop chooses to protect the repair against future rust.
The single biggest driver of cost is whether the repair is cosmetic or structural. Grinding surface rust off a fender and blending fresh paint is a $200–$500 job. Cutting out perforated metal, welding in a fabricated patch, sealing it and refinishing to match the surrounding panel is a $1,500–$3,500 job. Same 'rust repair', very different work.
Typical price ranges by service (2026, GTA)
Surface rust removal and touch-up paint: $150 – $500 per area, depending on panel size and paint match complexity.
Rocker panel repair (cut and weld, one side): $1,200 – $3,500 depending on whether the shop uses a full-length replacement panel or fabricates a patch.
Wheel well / quarter panel rust repair: $700 – $2,500 per corner, or $3,000 – $6,000+ for full quarter panel replacement.
Floor pan repair: $600 – $3,000 depending on footwell size vs. full floor replacement.
Frame rust repair: $800 – $8,000+ depending on scope — patches and reinforcements at the low end, full section replacement on pickup trucks at the high end.
Underbody clean, treat and undercoat: $200 – $500 as a service, more if individual brackets and components need replacement.
Rustproofing (annual): $130 – $220 for oil sprays, $200 – $500 for rubberized undercoating.
What actually pushes the price up
Paint match. Solid colours are straightforward; metallic and pearl paints require more blending and cost more.
Panel access. If trim, bumpers, doors or interior components need to come off, labour goes up quickly.
Hidden rust. What looks like a small hole from outside is often much larger once the shop starts cutting. Good shops flag this in the estimate and quote a range.
Structural certification. If the vehicle is going through an Ontario safety inspection, repairs must meet stricter standards and are priced accordingly.
How to get an accurate quote
Request quotes from multiple Toronto rust repair professionals, and always ask the same three questions: what's the scope of the repair, what warranty comes with it, and what happens if hidden rust is discovered once the panel is opened up? A shop that answers those clearly is usually one worth working with.
