Rocker Panel Repair vs Replacement

Rocker panel patching cuts out only the visibly rusted section and welds in a small piece of metal. It's faster and cheaper.

Full rocker replacement cuts the entire outer rocker panel from door-to-door and welds in a pre-formed panel that matches the vehicle's factory stamping. It's more expensive but generally longer-lasting.

Patching works well when rust is localized to a single spot and the rest of the rocker is solid — often the case on newer vehicles where the corrosion caught early.

Full replacement is the right call when rust extends along most of the rocker, when the inner rocker is also compromised, or when the vehicle will be sold or safetied and needs to look uniform.

Ask whether the shop uses a stamped replacement panel or hand-fabricated patches, whether the inner rocker will be inspected and repaired if needed, and what warranty is offered on the welded repair.
